The municipality of Sao Paulo, under the leadership of mayor Fernando Haddad (PT, Worker’s Party), has launched its interactive website on URBAN MANAGEMENT. The website contains several innovations, including a collaborative map where viewers are invited to geotag urban issues and suggestions for spatial intervention. The geotagging allows for comments and debate. The municipality has a team that reviews tags and compiles suggestions and comments. The main ensuing issues are discussed in regular public audiences.
The website also makes available all maps produced for the elaboration of the new strategic plan of the municipality to the general public. These are maps in KML format (Google Earth), PDF and shapefile for anyone to edit and play.
The website has extensive documentation on the production of the new strategic plan for the city and several ways for citizens to give their opinion and participate. This is part of an effort to increase participation and transparency in decision-making.
